Kensington Has the Highest Propertion of Million Pound Homes

Millionaires rows have been hit hard by the effects of the credit crunch, with buyers unwilling to pay huge sums for the country's most exclusive properties, according to new figures.

While one in every 97 properties was worth at least seven figures in November 2007 when house prices first started to slip, that figure has now fallen to just one in 150.
Unsurprisingly, London has seen the smallest reduction in the number of properties valued at £1 million or more, with 29 per cent fewer now than two years ago.

Kensington in London has the highest proportion of seven figure homes, with 48 per cent of the housing stock in the area valued at this level, followed by South Kensington at 39 per cent and and Chelsea at 37 per cent.

London has Highest Concentration of Graduates

New research into the diversity of UK graduates has shown that London has the highest proportion of people with access to university education.

Carried out by the University and Colleges Union (UCU), the report placed seven London boroughs, including Richmond Park, Kensington & Chelsea and Hampstead & Highgate, in its top ten regions for residents with degrees.

The organisation said that the figures reveal a gap between the north and south of the country when comparing the opportunities available to gain a university education and a graduate job.

Cheaper Rail Fares for Kensington

A number of London rail users living in Kensington properties could be set to benefit from cheaper fares in the coming months, thanks to a new Oyster card scheme.

From this month, new pink Oyster route validators will be installed at nine major Overground and tube stations, including Kensington Olympia.

It is hoped that by swiping their Oyster cards on such validators when changing between services, people could enjoy lower fares by using routes that avoid Zone One.

Shashi Verma, Transport for London's (TfL) director of fares and ticketing, commented that passengers may end up getting cheaper fares if they adopt the Oyster card readers.

He said: "By touching the pink reader en route - in addition to touching in and out at either end of your journey - you will be charged the appropriate Oyster single fare for your journey based on the route you take."

TfL recently announced that bus users across London could be set to benefit from clearer information about service times in the near future.

Top Tips For Property: The Top Ten Most Expensive Streets in the World

Kensington Palace Gardens, London, $65,000 per sq/m
Kensington Palace Gardens, the private road that abuts Kensington Palace and houses several embassies, including the Russian delegation, is still the fourth most expensive street in the world. Prices on KPG, as estate agents call it, have come off no more than 15% to 20%.
Two properties have been sold privately on KPG this year, according to estate agent Savills, which indicates demand is still strong for London’s most exclusive address.
